Real Situations
Our self-defense program at Gracie Barra Celebration is rooted in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu — the most effective self-defense system for real-world situations. BJJ was developed specifically so that a smaller, weaker person could defend themselves against a larger, stronger attacker using leverage, positional control, and technique.
Unlike traditional self-defense courses that teach theoretical responses to unlikely scenarios, our program is built on live training. You'll practice every technique with a partner, building the muscle memory and confidence to respond under pressure — because self-defense only works if you've trained it under realistic conditions.
Classes cover the most common real-world threats: standing grabs, bear hugs, headlocks, chokes from behind, being taken to the ground, and how to escape from underneath a larger attacker. Every class is taught by Gracie Barra certified instructors who understand how to teach these skills safely and progressively.
Whether you're a complete beginner looking to feel safer in everyday life, or someone who wants to build a foundation before moving into full BJJ training, this program gives you practical tools from day one.

A Typical Self-Defense Class
Each class follows a structured format focused on practical scenarios. No prior experience required — every class is accessible to complete beginners.
Warm-up (10 min)
Movement drills, breakfalls, and hip escapes
Scenario Technique (20 min)
Instructor demonstrates defense against a specific real-world threat (grab, choke, mount, etc.)
Partner Drilling (15 min)
Practice the technique with a partner, progressively adding resistance
Situational Sparring (10 min)
Controlled, scenario-based live practice with safe parameters
Cool-down (5 min)
